Hands-on summer camps are coming fast at Hilltop Montessori School!
Limited spaces remain for our summer camps! Slime Camp, Create-a-Town, The Science of Baking, Rube Goldberg Machines, and Math & Reading camps will bring a hands-on, and engaging approach to education.
With the exception of Math & Reading camp (more on that below), each of these week-long camps will give kids ages 4 to 12 a week-long experience that they will never forget.
Slime Camp will work through different experiences of the ooey-gooey-ness of different slimes. Some edible, some crunchy, all with different uses and purposes. Have some sticky, colorful, slimy fun with us!
In The Science of Baking, children will learn through hands-on activities how chemistry, biology, and physics combine to make delicious breads, cakes, cookies, and other confections. How does yeast work? Why do many recipes not use it? What effect do different ingredients have?
In the Create-a-Town Camp we partner with Strong Towns Steubenville to help children understand urban planning. Children will work together to think through what makes a town strong and healthy for human flourishing.
Rube Goldberg Machines Camp will see children designing their own fun and effective simple machine. How many steps can they include? How many interesting items can they use? What will it do?
Each of these camps has a maximum of 12 students.
Our Math & Reading Camp is a two-week special for children ages 6 to 12. The Montessori approach to reading and math brings children into a new and deeper appreciation for these vital skills. Using hands-on materials, children learn how the decimal system works and why it’s important. They learn how to write in cursive, and why this skill is so valuable for brain development and learning. Depending on the children’s ability, we move quickly into arithmetical operations, functions of words, and parts of speech.
The Math & Reading Camp is limited to six students to ensure more one-on-one attention for each student.
All camp sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A light snack is included each day.
